In addition, a firefighter who was dressed in protective gear and helmet showed the students not to be afraid when they enter the building. In addition to Baurle and Producer Steph Darrow, the production is made possible thanks to several students who have taken on leadership roles, including assistant director Toni Ash and stage managers Nexayda Marin, Ashly Olmeda and Sophia Tellez. Thomas Edison Elementary School fourth graders, who had been researching different engineering careers, used Legos and Play-Doh to build helicopters, trains, robots, buildings and phone chargers as a way of demonstrating their knowledge.
Alvarez, a junior, created his “Godzilla” piece with pen and ink as part of an “Art as Storytelling” class project, which challenged students to create an illustration with a narrative. Cervantes, a senior, created her “Carousel Frog” in watercolor as part of a class project that encouraged students to explore the whimsical nature of carnival and circus themes. Nicolas, a junior, created her artwork as part of an eye study project that challenged students to develop techniques with watercolor and create a realistic eye. Our student athletes have won league championships in football, soccer, wrestling, basketball, baseball and track. Award-winning theater, band and choral programs continue to be a tremendous source of pride. Literacy publications showcase our students' journalistic talents, and the number of other clubs and numerous honor societies demonstrates the well-roundedness of our student body.
Senior to Perform With 2022 All-State Symphony Orchestra
The projects that the students completed were part of teacher Erik Maniscalco’s art classes. Parents/Guardians of students interested in participating should follow the link to the registration page to sign them up. On April 19 at 7 PM, we will host our first MEET the Artist ZOOM. Elementary students (grades 3rd -5th) and families have been invited to meet Kristian Battell, an exhibiting artist. On April 30, students are then invited to visit our local gallery space – Ice Cream Social, to see Ms. Battell’s art and see art by our own Port Chester High School students.

Fourth graders work on Sugar Skulls on November 1st the Day of the Dead
From websites about favorite movies to sports teams and advice on how to take care of pets, Port Chester High School students have been designing their own webpages. The creative challenge was part of an assignment in teacher Daniel Tamucci’s Computer Science Discovery class. As part of their studies, the third graders have been learning about place value, as well as multiplication and division with units of 2-5 and 10. They will continue their lessons with multiplication and division with units of 0, 1, 6-9 and 10. During the second part of the lesson, they created condensation chambers by pouring hot water in a cup and placing a lid on it. They recorded their observations and further discussed the concept of condensation.
For their posters, the students were challenged to identify the central idea and purpose in the speech and cite quotes to support their claims. Lopez said her students were deeply engaged in the project and she was proud of their work. Throughout their studies, Miceli said his students will focus on nine key music study areas – intonation, articulation, rhythm, dynamics, balance, scales, tone, phrasing and airflow. Members of the Port Chester High School Band rehearsed dynamic volume levels for their performance of “Bolero” by Maurice Ravel during a recent lesson in band teacher Mike Miceli’s class. Having taught her students about the elements of art, including shape, form and space, Temple said she was inspired to take the idea of space literally and challenge the students to show her what their universe would look like. As part of the new program, all Port Chester High School seniors will bypass the traditional application process for automatic admission into the college, starting with the Class of 2023.

Baurle said she chose the ensemble-based show to provide more actors with the opportunity to shine on stage with lead roles. In addition, it requires the students to develop their character choices by vocally and physically embodying each character. Port Chester High School students Joseph Alvarez, Emely Cervantes and Kimberly Nicolas have their artworks on display in the virtual New York State Art Teachers Association exhibit. This morning, a small, quarter-sized, sealable plastic bag was found in one of the classrooms at King Street School.
With an emphasis on language development, character education, family engagement though its community school model, and social-emotional learning, Edison students will have success for today and be prepared for tomorrow. Port Chester Schools’ incoming kindergartners enjoyed a frozen summer treat while meeting new friends and classmates during the annual Kindergarten Ice Cream Social on Sept. 1. Accompanied by their families, the students were warmly greeted by their teachers before participating in educational activities. During the lesson, the students practiced playing their wooden block instruments while following their teacher’s instructions. They learned to echo and read different rhythm patterns, including quarter note, quarter rest and eighth notes. They will continue to learn rhythms as second graders to prepare them for playing the recorder and strings in third grade and a band instrument in fourth grade.
Port Chester High School freshmen recently analyzed inspirational speeches and created their own posters to identify the central idea and purpose. The assignment, which was part of teacher Imogen Lopez’s Literacy and Composition class, was designed to further motivate students in their own learning. Kindergartners at Thomas Edison Elementary School meticulously glued colorful paper strips onto another piece of paper to create their own 3D sculptures in teacher Alison Gallagher’s art class. Having learned about different types of lines, they used their imaginations to build roller coasters, bridges and cars.
Please have students listen to announcements the first few days of school for sport specific meetings and information about practices. Finally, most of our students are active in extra-curricular activities, including band and orchestra, drama, choral groups, sports teams, yearbook, school newspaper and other clubs and groups. The Port Chester spring sports registration for the High School will be open from February 14ththrough the first week of official practices which start on March 14th. Sports being offered are Baseball, Softball, Track & Field, Boys Tennis, & Club Golf at the high school level. To introduce the complex concept to the school’s youngest learners, Waldmann compared it to algorithms that students use every day, including washing their hands, brushing their teeth and walking to school. At the end of class, the students gathered on the rug to review what they learned.

They said their goal is to equip students with the necessary tools and knowledge to help them grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Park Avenue Elementary School students Valery Guanoquiza and Anthony Trezza have their artworks on display in the virtual New York State Art Teachers Association exhibit. Guanoquiza, a fifth grader, created her “Pretty Primary Cake” using tempura paint, watercolor pencils and oil pastel on watercolor paper.
KSS is a collaborative community committed to inspiring curiosity, integrity, and academic excellence in our children. Students are engaged in an age-appropriate curriculum that includes literacy, math, hands-on inquiry based science, digital literacy, and the arts. We continually work with outside consultants and our law enforcement partners on validating best practices, identifying improvement opportunities, training our staff, and maintaining strong emergency response procedures when necessary. As we learn more about what led to this event, we will again carefully evaluate our safety and security measures to ensure the safest possible environment for our school community. The Port Chester High School Marching Band Association wishes to give a big shout out to the entire Port Chester/Rye Brook community for the overwhelming support given to the PCHS Marching Band for all of our fundraisers over the years. This Sunday August 21, from 10am - until around 3 pm students from the High School Marching Band will take to the streets ringing doorbells collecting donations for their Annual Band Booster Drive.
The support of the community to help pull this event together will ensure that our band season is a success from the beginning. This is one of our many fundraisers developed to help cover costs for various performance expenses incurred throughout the year. From dribbling to trapping and passing, John F. Kennedy Elementary School fourth graders rotated through eight different stations to practice their soccer skills in physical education teachers Amanda Solis’ and Dan Maldonado’s classes.
